Say it aint Sho! Ohtani might need Tommy John surgery?

Just as the Angels finally seemed to give Mike Trout the much needed help he has deserved for years, MLB Rookie and Two-Way Player, Shohei Ohtani has been diagnosed with bad UCL sprain, and the Angels’ organization is fearing it might be a full tear, which would result in Ohtani needing Tommy John surgery!

Ohtani has burst onto the American scene, putting up jaw dropping stats in limited action as both a Pitcher and Offensive Threat! Ohtani has gone 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA on the mound and is batting .289 with six home runs, 20 RBI and a .907 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in limited plate appearances. He is the first two-way player in decades, and has excited not only Angels’ fans, but fans all over the world.

When Ohtani was signed back in December, it was revealed he had a Grade 1 UCL sprain. Now he is dealing with a Grade 2 UCL sprain, and if it reaches Grade 3, Ohtani would need Tommy John surgery, which means we wouldn’t see him on the field until 2020 at the earliest.

This all comes at the worst time, as the Angels are currently in the playoff hunt, sitting at 41-38. The Ohtani signing finally gave Mike Trout someone great to play along side, and Trout is having possibly his best season of his young career on top of everything. Just when things are starting to look good for the Angels, this injury could keep them where they have been since Trout entered the league, on the cusp of greatness, but actually closer to mediocrity. We can all hope that Ohtani is back soon and healthy, so we can enjoy watching 2 of the best young talents in the MLB playing in the post season this year.
